What is the image bank?

The Leiden University image bank is a digital database where professionally created images are stored, available for use by university staff and students. These images have been created by professional photographers and are specifically intended for Leiden University's communication materials.

The new image bank has been online since 1 September 2025: dam.universiteitleiden.nl

Using images

The images in the university image bank can be used for all official Leiden University communications, including:

  • Print: brochures, flyers, posters, reports, newsletters
  • Digital communications: websites, email campaigns, digital presentations
  • Social media: Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter posts
  • Press releases and news articles
  • Event materials: banners, invitations, programme booklets
  • Educational materials: presentations, course materials

Check usage rights

Not all images in the image bank automatically have the same usage rights. Before using an image, always check the specific rights associated with it.

Checking rights:

  • Check the metadata of each image for usage rights.
  • Note any restrictions on use.
  • Verify that the image is suitable for your specific application.
  • If in doubt, contact the image editors.

Search options
The image bank has extensive search options:

  • Search by keyword
  • Filter by category (e.g., students, buildings, events)
  • Sort by date or popularity
  • Search by photographer

Image quality

All images in the image bank are of professional quality and suitable for both print and digital applications. Different resolutions are available, depending on your specific needs.

Uploading images

Not everyone has permission to upload images. We do this to monitor the quality of our image bank. If you would like permission to upload, please contact the image editors.
