Merriweather

Merriweather is the university's primary typeface. It is used for body text in print, as well as in letters and reports. You can use the complete font family, but regular, italic and bold are the most commonly used styles.

Characteristics of Merriweather

  • Its classic, serif design communicates a sense of tradition and reliability.
  • Despite its traditional appearance, the typeface is optimised for on-screen reading.
  • Its slightly condensed letterforms and generous x-height enhance legibility, even at small sizes.

Vestula

Vestula is the university's secondary typeface. We use it for various applications, such as for headings (except on covers) and in tables. Staff have this typeface on their workstations; for others, it is available upon request due to licensing restrictions.

Other typefaces

In some situations, you may not be able to use the designated typeface: for example, in an email. In these cases, you may use alternative fonts that are available on all computers:

  • For Merriweather the alternative is Georgia
  • For Vestula the alternative is Verdana.
