Many of our staff work with Canva. It's an accessible tool that makes it easy to achieve professional results.
But Canva isn't supported, so we are switching to an alternative that the university already has a campus licence for: Adobe Express. The first experiences of heavy users are positive. We're now working on templates in our house style.
Learning to use a new tool takes time
Adobe Express is relatively new for our team. Whereas many staff have years of experience with Canva, we need to discover how Adobe Express works. What options does it offer? What are the limitations? What's the best way to use it?
This learning curve takes time. We don't want to rush to create templates that don't work properly or don't meet your needs. We want to take the time to get to know Adobe Express, so we can develop templates that really help you.
User-friendly templates
Creating a template is one thing, but making a user-friendly one is quite another. We want you to be able to get started without having to read a 50-page manual. This means that elements must be logically positioned, text fields must be intuitively adjustable and that you won't accidentally move or delete important elements.
To do this properly, we're looking for experts from within and outside the organisation who can help us with best practices for template design.
Support and application management
Introducing a new application is more than just creating templates. You need technical management and a help desk for user questions. We are working with the ISSC to realise this.
Given the ISSC's busy schedule, with various ongoing projects alongside its regular support, we are looking together at when Adobe Express can be rolled out and how staff can access support if they run into difficulties.
Behind the scenes
In short: a lot is going on behind the scenes. We're creating not just templates but also a solid basis to ensure that Adobe Express is a good alternative to Canva, complete with templates you can use straight away.
It will take a little longer for everything to be ready, but we're getting there. We'll let you know as soon as the new templates are available. And until then: thank you for your understanding.
